Focus on communication

Communication is the instrument that people use to make clear what they expect from each other and how they expect it. Communication is partly content (what do I say?) or verbal communication. And partly form (how do I say it?) or non-verbal communication. Cutting through this are the different styles of communication that may have to do with the individual character, origin, age, level of education and language skills of the person in question.

We approach communication pragmatically: do what works! In the training we therefore emphasize the acquisition and deepening of skills skills. For example:

  • analyzing situations
  • attention to all dimensions within communication (origin, age, gender, language level, education level, gender, etc.)
  • observing nonverbal communication
  • be flexible in the communication techniques used
  • becoming aware of one's own nonverbal signals
  • becoming aware of one's own language use and tailoring communication to the customer

Working with cases

In the Jaffar Consultancy training courses, participants always have the opportunity to apply the information directly to their own situation and actions. Either by describing a case in advance, or by describing situations during the training in which they would like to act differently.

Working with actors

Jaffar Consultancy often works with professional training actors in its training courses. In addition, our actors play an important role in plenary work with interactive scenes for larger groups. We apply the following quality criteria for working with actors:

  • The actors have to psychological insight so that they can play characters with different education levels and backgrounds.
  • The actors have to can provide feedback from the experience of the character they have played: actors can indicate what effect the participant's behavior had on them in the practiced situation.
  • Humour and the ability to put things into perspective are also qualities that we ask of an actor to promote the learning process during training.

Alignment of working methods and theory to the participants

When choosing working methods, we look at the level of education, language skills of the participants and the extent to which participants have already worked with different cultures, so that there is always the right mix of:

  • interactive knowledge transfer
  • practice or carry out assignments in small groups
  • practice skills with actors
  • working methods that use photos, video or theater, including interactive scenes

Interactivity

Interactive scenes are a working method developed by Jaffar Consultancy that is used to discuss 'difficult' topics. The traditional working method that is often used in training with actors focuses on one behavioral aspect, for example aggression. Our scenes are essentially brief case studies. They always show the multiple dimensions of a certain theme, for example: differences in origins, views, personal differences in character, differences between men and women, differences in language and education level. And all this at the same time and intertwining, just like in real life.

The actors let the audience share in the thoughts of the characters in an interactive way. This ensures recognition of the different positions of people in the room. The participants are then invited to respond, for example by proposing solutions to the (communication) problem. If necessary, participants can also predict the solution themselves.
