Wishes of oldcomers regarding parenting courses in integration
Research commissioned by Forum, Institute for Multicultural Development
The national knowledge center in the field of multicultural development Forum wanted to conduct a qualitative study into the wishes regarding parenting courses in the context of integration of oldcomers. Forum engaged Jaffar Consultancy to survey oldcomers.
Oldcomers were invited to ten meetings to formulate their wishes. The format and implementation of these meetings was provided by Jaffar Consultancy. Trainer Leila Jaffar and actors from the group's language area performed short scenes for the groups. These scenes were recognizable and understandable to the participants and removed (language and cultural) barriers, allowing wishes and criticism to be expressed.
The outcomes of the meetings have been processed by Jaffar Consultancy in an advisory report to Forum.
Many oldcomers wanted to learn more about education in the Dutch context. A number of newcomers also wanted to learn to talk about differences in upbringing with their children's teachers.
